A measurement method called the open circuit voltage test is used to find the voltage that a transformer produces across its terminals when there is no load on it. There is no electricity flowing through the transformer during this test since the secondary winding is left open. Next, a voltage source equal to the transformer's rated voltage energizes the primary winding.
A voltmeter is connected to the transformer's secondary terminals during the open circuit voltage test in order to measure the voltage that is generated. This value is referred to as the transformer's open circuit voltage or no-load voltage. It shows the voltage that the transformer has available at its output when no load is attached to it.
